“The chase is better than the catch”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mohammed Yousef Al-Bloushi – a TV Host on Kuwait television with an educational field background

Tell us about your education.
I got my bachelor’s degree in Library and information science from PAAET in 2009 and my Master’s degree also in LIS from Kuwait University in 2014.

Why or what inspired you to study LIS?
As they say information is power and studying library and information science qualifies you to be more helpful to people to seek the right and trustworthy information resources, especially nowadays with the rapid growth of information accuracy is required.

How did you get into acting and becoming a TV Host?
I started acting in 2007 in short films like a hobby. It came from my passion of cinema. I kept participating in few short films which I consider was a tryout and it wasn’t close to something serious. I stopped thinking about it in 2011 when I started doing my Masters but still the passion exists and also being a TV host was on my mind since 2011 but I’ve waited almost 10 years to start and as they say it’s never too late.

How did your upbringing affect the way you approached your career?
Well I was excited to watch TV since I was a child. Specially KTV2 and during the weekend I enjoyed watching its different programs during the 1990’s and it really helped to develop my English speaking skills and also my interest in different fields and hobbies. When it comes to my qualifications, I believe that you as a person should control and add your finger print to any profession or degree you get, character and personality comes first and with it you’ll manage your career.

What’s a typical day like for you?
I really want to wake up as early as possible to hit the gym before 6 am. It was my routine before and I want to get back to it as laziness and junk food won’t get us anywhere.

The most important thing when you are in front of the camera is?
For me facing the camera is like a conciliation meeting with one of your best friends. You want to be cool and humorous on one side and seriously and gentle on the other side.

It sounds like making sure your guest is comfortable and relaxed is super important. How do you go about making your guests feel less nervous as you interview them?
As long as you know what your guest will talk about and making them know that you know it, it will be relaxing and comfortable for them. A brief communication will be good to boost their confidence during the interview and in the end we are the ones who’ll learn new information from the guest not the vice-versa.

If you were to boil it all down, is there any one thing you think makes an interview great?
The more the guest is confident, the more the interview gets great. It’s all on the guest the host in my point of view only manages the conversation. If you notice the most memorable interviews are based on the way the guest answers and when it comes to the hosts, they need to know how to ask and tweak the questions to make them suitable for the guest character.

What’s been your favorite part of hosting your show, “Mic. On”?
Well, everyone is helpful and kind and I really enjoyed working with all of them. The show was focusing on interviewing singers which was a new experience for me and I really like the program and the reaction it got. It was out of the box idea and it was a new visionary program on KTV2.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Be-care-ful.

What did you learn from your biggest failure?
It’s time to say your failure is your biggest lesson. But to be more honest failure comes to everyone. Some people like to repeat it and some like to live in it and some try to escape it. I’ve learned that no matter what happens to you, keep yourself optimistic because nothing will last forever. Either it’s good or bad.

What is your life motto? Any favourite inspirational quote(s)?
I really like the quote that says “The chase is better than the catch”

What is your own definition of happiness?
Focus on what you have and be satisfied about it and appreciate the wins and losses in your life.

What is your biggest achievement so far?
Well to be honest I never considered any achievement as the big achievement but so far I’m proud of what’ve achieved in my career because my path was full of challenges and obstacles.

What would you like to achieve?
Perhaps doing a longer interviews with it being divided to episodes with guests who have a great knowledge to share with us in any field.

What’s your favourite music?
Mostly I’m into classical Arab music and I enjoy listening to soundtracks.

Why are you so obsessed with everything vintage?
It started from my passion of cinema too. I’ve always preferred watching films from the 50’s 60’s and the 70’s. It later inspired my style in general.

Do you have any other secret talent(s)?
Let’s say I used to like martial arts and especially boxing.

What are some of your other hobbies?
I like reading and going to cinema “giving it an event treatment“ and I also started into horse-riding because it’s something I’ve dreamed about since my childhood.
