FormerlyMe is an online movement to motivate and inspire people to become the best version of themselves by showing them my journey and experience in trying a new workout and lifestyle regime every 30 days. Every post, update, and video is ‘formerly me’ as I endeavor to become the best version of myself and become FormerlyMe. Each month CP Magazine will showcase a part of my journey to becoming the best version of myself. I hope that in turn this inspires and motivates you to start your own journey as well. For this month’s story we will focus on the “On The Go: Pumpkin Festival” days of my journey.
Just outside Stuttgart on the edges of the Black Forest is a Baroque town of Ludwigsburg. Every year between August and December, the palace grounds host the world’s largest pumpkin exhibition with over 450,000 thousand pumpkins and 600 varieties on display. People from all across Europe come to see the weigh-ins for the largest and heaviest pumpkin, check out the awesome pumpkin displays, and feast upon many pumpkin dishes such as pumpkin ravioli and pumpkin fries.
Every weekend they have mini events such as pumpkin boat contest, carving contests, and of course the big events of the Germany and European Championship Weigh-Ins. I attended the European weigh-ins and let me tell you that these are some humongous pumpkins! In recent years they have had some world record setting weigh-ins. The largest being 2702 pounds (1226 kg)! However this year the festival would not see many pumpkins over 800 pounds (362 kg).
Seeing how big these pumpkins can get is a reminder that we have the same capacity to grow. Whether we grow heavy and fat or we grow strong and muscular, we can choose how we grow by what we eat and what we do health-wise with physical activity such as cardio, sports, strength training, etc. I looked up some tip son how to grow big pumpkins and it is somewhat interesting that you need lots of water and sunshine. Much how we as humans need lots of water and sunshine ourselves! So get outside, soak in some sun, and drink your water!
