“Beauty is all about confidence”
When it comes to make up, Ghadeer Qambar insists that simplicity is key. Known for her natural looking makeup, Ghadeer is well placed to offer advice; and with dreams of her own makeup school in Kuwait, she may soon be doing just that.
Please introduce yourself to our readers:
My name is Ghadeer Qambar. I was born and live in Kuwait. I am very independent and that’s how I have been raised by my parents. I am a wife and mother and very attached to my family so they always come first.
I’m in love with coffee, food and music but makeup is my passion.
Tell us about your education:
I hold a full Diploma in makeup and have been in the makeup business for eight years. I also have a Masters Degree and Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from Kuwait University.
When and how did you get interested in makeup? When did you decide that you wanted to be a professional makeup artist?
Like all girls, I was in love with makeup since I was a teenager. I used to copy models’ makeup in magazines and newspapers and try to practice on myself. Also I loved reading a lot about makeup products and beauty creams and how to take care of the skin. Over time, my friends started to ask me to do their makeup for parties and weddings. I have done makeup since then and began to study makeup. I became a professional in 2009.
Can you share some highlights of your journey as a Pro Makeup Artist?
The most important thing in makeup is to practice it with your own taste and vision. Also, take some ideas and techniques from other makeup artists. That’s why I insisted on attending many master classes with international makeup artists to learn their secrets and ideas.
What are the different services that you currently offer to your clients?
Makeup for different occasions, like receptions, weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, engagements, etc.
How do you define beauty?
Beauty is all about confidence. Confidence is the master key for beauty.
Does everyone look better with makeup?
Of course! When we say makeup, it doesn’t mean too much makeup. Sometimes minimal makeup is more than enough to show beautiful features of the face.
How do you keep up with the latest trends and style and where do you go for inspiration?
I follow up with high end brands and top makeup artists worldwide.
What has been the biggest challenge of your career?
Dealing with different types of personalities, especially celebrities.
What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?
My name has reached very well known brands in the world like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Smash Box and Benefit cosmetics.
What three makeup items should no woman leave home without?
Compact powder, lip gloss and a good mascara!
What is the best way to stay fresh for the summer?
Drink lots of water, use sunblock and bright colours for makeup with lots of highlighter!
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
I’m very well known for good blending, great contour and natural looking makeup.
What is your skin care routine?
Never sleep with any makeup on! Hydrating moisturizer and dermatologist follow up.
In your opinion, what are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?
The most popular mistake is that they copy any known makeup artist technique and use products that are not suitable for their skin tone and type. They follow the trend whether it’s suitable or not!
What is the most important beauty advice you can give to women?
Simplicity is everything. Stay simple in everything. Over doing anything can go very ugly!
Can you tell us more about your GQ Mink Lashes?
Lashes in general give an amazing definition to the eyes. I decided to do my own lash line and I’m very proud that I was the first lady from the Gulf region to have her own lash line.
Are you planning to launch any new products?
Yes, I am working on some other products other than lashes. It will take time but hopefully they will be out soon.
Share something you would like the world to know about you.
I don’t put makeup on every day! I’m fine with going out with only sunblock or moisturizer on my face. I rarely go to beauty salons too!
What are some of your other hobbies?
I love listening to music, sports and cooking.
What’s the next goal on your ‘list’?
To have my own makeup school in Kuwait.
